Aventura, FL (Kislev 23 , 5785/December 24, 2024). On Yom Sheni (Monday), FHU President, N. Esther Basha, made a statement congratulating FBI on the arrest of the perpetrator – Donovan Hall - who placed numerous phone calls to Jewish establishments with verbal assaults and life threats.
“Florida Hebrew University was one of the institutions that received his threats,” she said. “The man expressed an intent to “hunt down” the IDF soldiers if any of them were our students. He also erroneously believed that President Netanyahu’s son attended the university, and made unflattering comments with regards to that over the phone.”
Back in October, right before Sukkot, FHU officials made an attempt to file a police report. However, their concerns were dismissed as insignificant by the responding officer.
It was only two and a half months later that FHU received a call from the special agent at FBI, regarding Hall’s arrest on several counts of interstate antisemitic threats.
Reflecting on this experience, President Basha remarked, “Individuals like Donovan Hall are products of ideologies steeped in ignorance and prejudice. As a Torah-centered institution, not only we condemn such darkness, but also work to elevate the world through the Light of Torah. Through education, acts of kindness, and the pursuit of holiness, we strive to promote a Torah-based culture rooted in justice and peace.”
FHU remains steadfast in its mission to cultivate a generation of Torah-guided leaders who combat ignorance with wisdom and love, fostering a world where divine principles shine brightly and truth prevails.
